Pronouns


Learning Outcomes

Students will:
  • The student will be able to use pronouns consistent in number and gender with nouns to which they refer.

Activity

  • Activity one: Students have word cards with the pronouns, he,him,she,her,it,you,I,we,us,they, and them. Teacher writes or states a sentence asking which pronoun can be substituted for a particular noun (it can be done as an oral cloze activity.)
    Students hold up the appropriate card.

  • Activity two: Pronoun Hunt: Students list all the pronouns to be found on one page or an entire selection in the prescribed anothology or take-home library book.

  • Activity three: Design worksheets in which students choose an appropriate pronoun for the underlined noun or students do a cloze activity inserting the appropriate pronouns.

  • Activity four: Students listen and write down the pronouns they hear as their teacher reads a selection to the class.

  • Assessment: Make anecdotal observations of students during the above activities and evaluate worksheets.
