Heavier/Lighter


Learning Outcomes

Students will:
  • Identify the heavier object.
  • Identify the lighter object.

Activity

  • This activity will require a balance scale, a selection objects of various masses, and a spinner with heavier/lighter marked on it.
  • Working in groups of two, one child selects an object then spins to determine whether the challenge will be to find a heavier or lighter object. The partner then chooses an object from the selection of objects that they feel will meet the challenge. The children place the objects on the balance scale to check the challenge.

Assessment Tips from Old Tom the Turtle

  • Ask the children to explain how they went about the task.

  • Ask the children to arrange the object from heaviest to lightest.
