Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- follow directions to place an object in relation to another object..
Activity #1: Following directions
Give the child an object (eg.book) and give the child directions using the positional
language from the instructions. eg. Put the book in front of the chalkboard.
Variation: Can be theme - related (eg. if doing a theme on whales the child would be given a whale cut-out)
Activity # 2: Follow directions worksheet
Children would be given a background scene and a page of reproducibles to be placed in
specific positions. The directions can be given orally and done as a whole - group
activity or the instructions can be written on chart paper or on a separate sheet and
placed in a learning center.
Variation: This would be a great idea for a seasonal activity. For eg. Hallowe'en the
background could be a haunted house scene. The directions could read:
1. Put the ghost above the roof.
2. Put the cat between the two jack-o-lanterns etc.
Variation: Could be theme related eg. putting animals in place on a farm scene if doing a farm theme.
Worksheet idea:
Show picture. eg.ball to the right of a toybox. The child has to select the sentence which best describes the picture.
eg. a. The ball is in the toybox.
b. The ball is to the left of the toybox
c. The ball is to the right of the toybox
d. The ball is under the toybox.
Assessment:
Circulate and observe children doing the cut and paste activity. Evaluate completed work.
