Math 2:  Number Estimate

Learning Outcomes

Students will be expected to:

- estimate the size of numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.

Activity

Have the children use a length of string to make a number line to 100. The length of string should reach across the classroom. Hang cards, decorated with groups of  krill and with the appropriate numbers, at the multiples of ten along the line. Using a cutout of a whale, place it at various places along
the number line and ask  the children where the closest group of krill is located. 

Assessment

Ask individual students to explain the estimate and note the responses.
