Dive into Math 2:	 Reading a Fahrenheit Thermometer	 				

The student will be able to:

	read a Fahrenheit thermometer. 

Worksheets:

1.  Draw 8 thermometers, minus the red liquid part of the thermometer, which the students 
have to shade in using colouring leads or crayons. At the bottom of each thermometer, 
indicate the following temperatures for the students to shade: 500F, 700F, 450F, 850F, 
600F, 750F, 800F, and 400F. 

2.  Design a bar graph for the 8 temperatures in Activity One. Side of bar graph is labelled
"Temperatures" and calibrated 30 - 900F. The bottom of the graph is labelled "Readings" with 
each of the 8 readings indicated as follows: 500F, 700F, 450F, 850F, 600F, 750F, 800F, 400F. 
Also, include 2 vertical lines for each reading so that the students will follow a shading 
pattern similar to what they do with the thermometer worksheet.

Activities:	

Hand out worksheets and have the students complete the activities involving reading a Fahrenheit thermometer. 

Activity One:	

		The students are given a worksheet containing 8 thermometers with temperatures 
		indicated below each one. They have to use colouring leads or crayons to shade 
		in the indicated temperature on each thermometer.

Activity Two:

		The students are given a worksheet containing a bar graph where, once again, 
		they use their colouring leads or crayons to shade in the indicated temperature 
		from Activity One.  



Assessment:

Circulate and  observe as each child completes the Reading a Fahrenheit Thermometer Worksheets. 
 
Evaluate each child's knowledge of Reading a Fahrenheit Thermometer by asking questions 
of the student and by marking the worksheet.
