Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- be able to read numerals from 100 - 500.
Activity 1
Distribute laminated mats labelled with H T O (hundreds, tens, ones) and
numeral cut-outs or plastic numerals if available. Have children place one
numeral under each heading and practice reading these numerals.
Activity 2
Teacher can demonstrate the use of a numeral holder and later the whole
class can use these. To make cut two pieces of bristol board with one
piece half as big. Staple the short piece along the bottom and sides
of to the bigger one to make a picket chart. Label H T O then staple
between letters to make three separeate compartments to hold numeral cards,
which should be laminated for durability. Teacher will put set of numerals
0 to 9 in each compartment (don't put zero in h). Children will read the
numeral the teacher holds up. Teacher can switch one numeral to change.
For example 286 can become 386 by changing the hundreds place numeral.
Great for drill 0 tens (208 305 etc).
