Measuring Lengths and Weights


Learning Outcomes

Students will:
  • Students will be able to approximate the length and weight of objects.

Activity

  • Arrange the students in groups of 4.


  • Provide each group with a measuring tape (or have the students bring one from home) and various weight scales.


  • Have the students measure various items inside and outside of the classroom and approximate the length\width of each object.


  • For example:

    lengths - book, gym mat, table, etc.

    weights - book, stick of chalk, apple, etc.


  • Have the students conduct a height and weight measurement for each member of their group and approximate.


  • Provide pictures of various transportation items (eg. roller blades, skateboard, car, airplane, etc.) and have the students decide which measurement would be used to approximate the weight of the objects (ie. ounce, pound, ton).
