Science Two: Cloud Patterns Learning Outcomes Students will be expected to: - The student will be able to observe and record cloud patterns. Activities: Part 1: Arrange the students in groups of 4. Provide each group with white and gray modelling clay and have the students make models of each of the 3 basic cloud patterns: Cirrus Clouds Cumulus Clouds Stratus Clouds Have them use toothpicks, bristol board, scissors and tape to make labels for their clouds and then insert the cloud labels into their models. Hand out mural paper and water paints for the group to paint a sky. When the painted sky is completely dry, have the students position each of their clouds in the correct location in the sky: Cirrus Clouds - highest in the sky Cumulus Clouds - middle of the sky Stratus Clouds - lowest in the sky Part 2: Hand out the Cloud Pattern worksheet to the students. Explain that they are to describe and draw a picture of the daily cloud patterns for a two week period. Assessment Tips from Old Tom the Turtle: · Circulate and observe the child's participation (ie. social interaction, on task, etc.) in the group. · Evaluate by discussing each child's cloud model with him to see if he is grasping the characteristics the 3 basic cloud patterns. · Evaluate each child's daily record of cloud patterns.
