Swim into Social Studies 1: Community Workers Learning Outcomes: Children will: - identify the occupations of some people in the community - understand how these people are important to meeting their needs and ensuring their safety. Activity: This activity can be on going throughout the year. Selected individuals (e.g., police officer, fire fighter, mail carrier, store keeper) can be asked to address the children. Prior to the presentations by the community workers, the children should discuss the job descriptions as a group. Each child should prepare a pertinent question to ask at the end of the presentation by the invited guest. Assessment: Note the child's deportment during the presentation, e.g., being courteous, listening attentively, individually thanking the presenter, etc..
