Swim into Social Studies 2 : Locations and Regions Learning Outcomes: Children will: - identify physical regions on a map of a country. - investigate why people settled in certain locations. Activity: Children should be provided with a map of a country on a sheet of paper. Working in groups they can research the different regions of the country (farming, mining, oil, forests, mountains, etc.) Each child can outline and name the different regions on their map. As an extended activity, the children can colour each region and make a legend on the bottom of the page. Each group can research why people settled in specific locations in the regions, e.g., a town beside a river in a farming region. Assessment: As the groups are completing their maps, use this time for 1-1 mini conferences. Engage individual children in conversation about their work, e.g., what can you tell me about this region? location? Record your observations.
