Crossword Puzzle Fun

Learning Outcomes

Students will:
  • Identify the four oceans.
  • Name the seven continents.

Activity

  • As a whole class activity, brainstorm the names of the oceans and continents. You can use a map to locate each one. Later the children can create a crossword puzzle using some or all of this information. Word searcher could also be developed. For added fun have the children use the computer to create their puzzles.
  • Note:

Students will need to have some background information on the continents and oceans before creating the puzzle. For this reason, the crossword puzzle would be appropriate as an end of unit activity. The word search will help familiarize children with the names.
