Multimedia’s A Whale of a TaleŽ series, Dive into
Math levels 1, 2 and 3 are designed to help students aged
5 to 9 acquire fundamental math skills. With the help of
Little Blue, a baby blue whale, and his underwater
friends, they explore a variety of mathematics ideas in a
fun, curiosity-driven environment. Using a combination of tutorial, discovery,
drill and practice learning techniques, Dive into Math
helps children understand the value of mathematics by
showing them how math is useful in their own everyday
activities. One of the lessons in level 1, for example,
encourages learners to measure using centimetres and
metres (centimetres for things like crayons and pencils
and metres for whales and trucks!). Level 2 explores more
advanced math concepts; the lesson on fractions
demonstrates how convenient it is to be able to divide
into one third, one half and one fifth. Level 3
introduces students to bigger numbers and more
complicated calculations that can be used in things like
determining the area of a snow fort.
The many lessons in each Dive into Math
program are also connected to other school subjects,
ensuring that young learners understand the usefulness of
math in everything they do. The reinforcement exercises,
rewards and remediation built into the lessons boost
children’s confidence in the skills they’ve
learned and allow them to advance to the next level with
ease. The ‘Just for Fun’ section in each
product allows children to take some time out to apply
math to things they love to do, like playing with bubbles
and racing to the finish line!
