| Leap into Language levels
1, 2 and 3 – part of INNOVA Multimedia’s A
Whale of a TaleŽ series – are designed to introduce
children to the basic elements of reading, writing and
listening. Most importantly, the lessons in each program
help young students discover how enjoyable and rewarding
reading and writing can be - at home, at school and at
play. In Leap into Language 1,
Little Blue, a baby blue whale and his underwater
friends, make sure a solid foundation is laid for
learning to read and write. The program introduces
children to language basics, like beginning and end
sounds, rhyming words and simple poems. They even take
the first step into reading, learning to recognize words
like ‘is,’ ‘the,’ and
‘’my.’ In level 2, the reading and writing
activities are stepped up, allowing children to
understand the importance of good listening habits and
reading to gather information, such as from a dictionary
(Penny the Puffin makes sure all this hard work is fun!).
In level 3, young readers find new challenges for their
language skills through activities such as reading and
writing complex stories and learning how to research and
organize information.
Remedial and enrichment activities and
quizzes, as well as features like the "Read to
Me" buttons, are integral components of each of the
three levels of Leap into Language. The Just for Fun
sections allow children some play time using their new
skills – an important element in motivating them to
embrace reading and writing both in school and at home.
