Features & Benefits:"A Whale of a Tale: Leap into
Language 2" is an interactive Language Arts
multimedia program designed to encourage students to
discover reading, writing, and listening strategies with
assistance from cartoon characters. The program
emphasizes reading strategies in the context of rhyming
poems and reading for information in the context of the
dictionary and journal. Students have the opportunity to
create their own rhyming poem and cinquain. Remedial and
enrichment activities are integral components of the
program. Sophia the Lobster introduces fourteen
"Just for Fun" games while Jerry the
Jellyfish offers twenty pieces of whale trivia for
the student to read and listen to. "Read to Me"
buttons are available in all sections.
"Leap into Language
2" is divided into eight sections:

7. Concept Words (Up, Down, Beside, etc.)

- Rhyming Words:
The user learns reading strategies in the
context of rhyming poems. Finding rhyming words
and parts of words with assistance from animated
sea creatures make learning these reading
strategies fun.
- Alphabetical Order:
Ordering with first and second letters.
- Writing Poetry:
Students select words to create their very own
copycat poem and cinquain.
- Whale Notebook:
Focuses on reading for information. A quiz
follows.
- Journal (Days of
the Week): Penny the Puffin keeps
a journal of her whale-watching journey. The
journal is written at two different levels.
Quizzes follow.
- Dictionary:
Students interact with the dictionary. A quiz
follows.
- Concept Words:
Cedric the Starfish introduces concept
words in context. Quiz follows.
