"A Whale of a Tale: Dive into Math 3" is an interactive CD-ROM designed to help students learn basic Mathematics skills. This multimedia package uses animated cartoon characters to add an interesting storyline to the delivery of key curriculum concepts. The program is pedagogically sound with an expert in Primary curriculum development retained as the content consultant. The program is designed for children ages seven through nine and can be used both in school and at home.

"A Whale of a Tale" series is developed around core curriculum topics in Mathematics, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies.

" A Whale of a Tale: Dive into Math 3" is an interactive Mathematics multimedia program designed to provide an integrated fun approach to learning mathematics for the student. It incorporates a combination of tutorial, discovery, drill, and practice learning strategies and techniques. Remedial and enrichment activities are integral components of the program. Sophia the Lobster introduces thirteen "Just for Fun" games while Jerry the Jellyfish offers twenty pieces of whale trivia for the student to read and listen to.

"Dive into Math 3" is divided into five sections:

  • Geometry: Percy the Penguin teaches children how to calculate the perimeter of several objects and how to find the area of a square and rectangle. Rocky Barnacle plays with geometric figures making them flip, slide and rotate.Winnie the Dolphin investigates symmetry.
  • Math Fair: Little Blue shows children the purpose for and how to make graphs. Oscar the Octopus tells Cedric about fractions as part of a whole and part of a set or collection. He uses a half, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and tenth to tell about fractions. Jerry the Jellyfish teaches children to read whole numbers, demonstrate an understanding of place value to four places, and develop the concept of zero in numbers.
  • Add and Subtract: Little Blue learns to add and subtract large numbers with and without regrouping ( three digit numbers).Samantha the Sea Horse teaches Percy the Penguin to order and compare decimal numbers to tenths.
  • Multiply and Divide: Little Blue learns how to nultiply and divide whole numbers by recognizing several meaning for multiplication and division. Little Blue and Cedric the Starfish learn how to represent mathematical relationships using open sentences (multiplication and division).
