Home, school, community, people, cultures, the earth . . . the world around us can be mind-boggling for children. Swim into Social Studies levels 1, 2 and 3 - part of INNOVA Multimedia’s A Whale of a TaleŽ series - guides young learners through basic geography and social concepts, helping them discover the role they play in the big, big world in which we live.

In level 1, Little Blue, a baby blue whale, and his underwater friends, introduce early learners to geography by focusing on places they already know: their home, school and community. They learn why we need rules and why jobs (like cleaning up your room!) are so important. The lessons in level 2 expand children’s horizons a little, looking at populations, the value of transportation, and how our community is actually part of a whole global village. By level 3, young learners – now adventurous explorers - are learning to use a compass, identify climate zones and understand how history is written in nature through things like fossils and cave dwellings.

In each of the three levels of Swim into Social Studies, lessons include quizzes as well as reinforcement games and activities, ensuring that learning is both challenging and fun. Laying the groundwork in social studies is not only an important part of a child’s education, it’s also an important part of their social development. Understanding the size and complexity of our world is the first step to social responsibility.
